CTE OVERVIEW

MSBSD CTE

Career and Technical Education (CTE) provides an important pathway to success for students and offers each student opportunities to personalize his or her education based on their aptitude, abilities, interests, and unique learning needs. High school CTE connects students with postsecondary transitions to college, technical training centers, military, apprenticeships, and advanced entry into the workforce.

CTE programs additionally, offer academic integration, technical skills attainment, industry recognized certifications, work-based learning, career readiness, critical thinking skills, expert technician instruction, and 21st Century facilities.'

Eight years after their expected graduation date, students who focused on career and technical education (CTE) courses while in high school had higher median annual earnings than students who did not focus on CTE. ~ SEPTEMBER 2019 | U.S. DEPARTMENT OF EDUCATION

Clarification Regarding February 4 Superintendent’s Report

An error in the February 4 Superintendent’s Report incorrectly attributed information to the Galena City School District based on a misattributed public source. The information actually referred to a school district in Illinois, does not apply to Galena’s schools, and the record has been corrected publicly and will be addressed at the next board meeting.

I want to correct an error that appeared in a slide within my February 4 superintendent’s report related to information attributed to the Galena City School District.

The slide included a screenshot from a publicly available website that clearly labeled the content as relating to “Galena City School District, Alaska.” Based on that labeling, the information was included in good faith. It has since been confirmed that the article was incorrectly attributed by the source and actually described actions taken by a school district in Illinois, not Galena, Alaska.

To be clear: the project details and financial figures shown in that slide do not apply to the Galena City School District or the Galena Interior Learning Academy. No actions, decisions, or funding referenced in that slide involve Galena’s schools.

I regret the confusion this error caused and understand why it raised concern. Accuracy matters, especially when discussing communities and school systems that people care deeply about. Once the issue was identified, it was important to correct the record publicly and clearly.  I have corrected this error on our MSBSD web site and will correct the error publicly at our next board meeting. I have reached out to other elected officials as well as leadership of Galena City Schools.

It was important to correct the record clearly and publicly and I welcome the opportunity to address this error.

As the District develops the FY 2027 budget, we are looking for feedback on stakeholder spending priorities and potential cost-saving options. There are three ways to submit feedback to the District:
    • Budget Priority Survey

    • Email

The Budget Priority Survey is available now, and Balancing Act will be available next week. Both will close on Friday, February 20. All responses will be shared with the School Board prior to the March 4 meeting.

Information on the District’s current FY 2027 budget outlook can be found here. We look forward to sharing your feedback with the Board.
